Azmin: Pekan would be a better opposition leader

By Syauqi Jamil

KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali took a jab at opposition leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi when he said that former Prime Minister Najib Razak makes a better opposition leader than the former.

“I would like to thank Pekan (Najib) that is representing Bagan Datuk (Zahid) in asking a supplementary question. I feel that YB Pekan is more suitable as the opposition leader as compared to Bagan Datuk,” he said leading to an outburst in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said this after Najib had asked a supplementary question that followed Zahid’s initial question on the Malaysia-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) in Parliament today.

Earlier, Najib was asking Azmin how the Pakatan Harapan government managed to estimate the project costing of the HSR at RM110 billion when the project tender is still open and will only be closed on December 28, 2018.

He also asked if the project’s impact assessment will be made public, claiming that a huge sum of the people are supporting are vested in the project.

Azmin said that the costings are not the exact tender price for the project. He added that any bid made via open tender will definitely bring savings to the project.

“This is why Pakatan Harapan have been previously urging the Pekan lead government to make all projects an open tender. Why is it that only today that Pekan understands the principles of open tender?

“On revealing the impact assessment, it has always been the principles of Pakatan Harapan government. Any SIA, TIA or EIA will be revealed to the people so they will know the actual cost for a project,” he said.
