KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister’s Office yesterday announced five names that will helm Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah) Board of Directors.

This includes the man who started it all, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself, who would be helming the chairman post.

Following Mahathir was Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali who was named as one of Khazanah’s director.

Also appointed as directors are Mohd Hassan Marican, Sukhdave Singh and Goh Ching Yin.

“The appointments are effective immediately.”

“The appointment of Khazanah Nasional Berhad Managing Director will be announced later,” the statement reads.

Last week, Khazanah confirmed that all nine of its Board of Director members including Managing Director Azman Mokhtar have tendered their resignation.

In a statement, Khazanah said it was done to ‘facilitate a smooth and orderly transition under the new government’.

In July, Mahathir had said that Khazanah has strayed from its intended role of holding shares allocated for the Bumiputera.

Khazanah was first set up during Mahathir’s first tenure as premier during the 1990s.
