Sungai Kandis: Malay rights protected for a decade under PH

KOTA RAJA: Under Pakatan Harapan, Selangor state government have been protecting and fighting for the Malay rights for a decade now.

PKR Sungai Kandis by-election candidate Zawawi Ahmad Mughni today rebuked allegations by the opposition who claimed the Malay rights are supposedly neglected under the Pakatan Harapan governance.

He said the coalition had a proven 10 years track record of welfare initiatives and programmes that had benefitted the Malay community, including the Inisiatif Peduli Rakyat (IPR) where 43 of its programmes are meant to mostly benefit the Malays.

“Small and medium enterprise development programmes under the state government has helped over 46,000 entrepreneurs where 95% of them are Malays.

“Selangor has also allocated RM8.54 million to help farmers. A total of RM7.1 million was allocated for training programmes involving fishermen and breeders. They are mostly Malays,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at the PKR Command Centre in Sungai Kandis, Zawawi added that another sum of RM8.7 million was allocated to aid resident’s overdue rental and to fund the Ceria Scheme to fix and renovate homes.

This was on top of some RM320 million allocated to bring down the rate of property assessment tax among B40 Malay groups.

Zawawi said that these efforts are visible evidence that the Malays are well taken care of under the Pakatan Harapan government.

“This proves that the accusations and claims made against PH are just empty talk. The Malays and their rights are always protected under the PH government,” he said.

Zawawi then took a swing at his opponent from Umno, Pemantau Malaysia Baru (Pemantau) chief Lokman Noor Adam when he told the latter to stop acting as a saviour that supposedly champions the rights of Malays in Selangor.

“He should stop making baseless accusations about Pakatan when it is clear that Malay voters have rejected his party.”

“Malay voters have rejected Umno because they are sick of the party leaders’ attitudes. This is evident in the general elections. Umno went from having 18 out of 56 state seats in Selangor to merely four seats in the 14th General Election,” said the Tahfiz school principal.

Zawawi will be facing Lokman and independent candidate Murthy Krishnasamy on August 4.

The Sungai Kandis by-election was called following the death of Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2 due to lymphoma.
