Wan Azizah will remain DPM, PH President post PKR poll

By Selangor Journal Staff

KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will maintain her post as the Deputy Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan (PH) President even if she doesn’t contest for the presidency post at the upcoming PKR party poll.

Despite potentially dropping the PKR President position to make way for her husband Anwar Ibrahim, Wan Azizah said her post in PH will enable her to continue her duty as the DPM.

The Pandan lawmaker who has yet to state any intentions of contesting at the PKR polls in November said that her post as Malaysia’s number two isn’t jeopardised due to her current post in PH.

“It’s okay, because my post in Pakatan Harapan still exists,” she told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Asked if she would take on the mantle of party de facto leader currently held by Anwar, Wan Azizah said did not elaborate much besides stating that it has yet to be discussed.

Meanwhile Wan Azizah earlier today in the Dewan Rakyat said that there were 4,293 registered childcare centres nationwide as of June this year.

Despite this, the Women, Family and Community Development Minister admitted that the government are still short handed when it comes to monitoring childcare centres on top of many more unregistered ones.

“According to the law, only childcare centres that has more than 4 children under its care needs to be registered. So this does not cover family members, friends and babysitters who are tasked with less than four children at a time.

“We are aware of the restrictions when it comes to monitoring these centres, because we do not have enough officers to conduct detailed observations on each childcare centre on a regular basis,” she said.

This was said as a response to a question posed by PAS Rantau Panjang MP Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff who queried on measures taken to regulate childcare centres and home-based babysitters.
