KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali today denied allegations on Selangor state government’s RM2.7 billion payout to take over Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor (Splash).
Azmin who is also the former Selangor Menteri Besar said the claims made by former Prime Minister Najib Razak is untrue as talks between the state government and the private water company are still taking place.
“When I left the state government, the negotiation process had been extended to July 4.”
“Then I left, Amirudin (Shari) took over (as the Selangor MB) and the discussion is still ongoing.”
“I was told that the deadline has been extended for yet another month since with the Cabinet’s approval,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
Last night, Najib in his Sungai Kandis by-election campaign speech claimed that Selangor will purchase Splash in the next couple of days for RM2.7 billion.
He said a certain Tan Sri who is supposedly a ‘crony of Pakatan Harapan (PH) top leader, happens to own 30% of Splash’s stake and will benefit from the buyout.
Meanwhile incumbent Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari yesterday said that the takeover of Splash is almost complete and that the documentation work are currently being finalised.
