PETALING JAYA: The Selangor vacant state seats of Balakong and Seri Setia will be having their by-election at the same time on Sept 8.
This was announced by Election Commission (EC) Deputy Chairman Othman Mahmood who also said that early voting will take place on Sept 4.
He added, the nomination day for both constituencies will be held on Aug 18, where the campaign period will last for 21 days.
The Seri Setia state seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent PKR rep Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin who passed away due to colon cancer.
In GE14, Shaharuddin garnered 29,250 votes to capture the Seri Setia seat.
This marks the third tragedy which triggered by-elections after GE14 with the first being the Sungai Kandis after the death of Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei due to lymphoma and the Balakong seat after Eddie Ng died in an accident.
Ng had managed to retained the Balakong seat with 41,768 votes.
