KUALA LUMPUR: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng today filed a motion in the Dewan Rakyat to reopen investigations pertaining to scandals surrounding state investment arm 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Through the motion, Lim wants the Auditor-General aand Public Accounts Committee (PAC) a detailed probe on 1MDB and had requested that all related information be made public.
“The Dewan Rakyat resolves that the Auditor-General and PAC (Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee) conduct again a detailed investigation on the embezzlement of money and scandals related to 1MDB and associated companies in order to restore the dignity of the Dewan Rakyat; and that all related information should be made public,” the motion reads.
The motion which appeared in today’s order paper is expected to be tabled tomorrow.
It was previously reported that the new PAC lead by Barisan Nasional (BN) Beluran MP Dr Ronald Kiandee has agreed to reopen 1MDB investigations.
The PAC in the previous Parliamentary term, lead by by BN Rompin MP Hasan Arifin had tabled its 1MDB report in Parliament and cleared former prime minister Najib Tun Razak of any wrongdoing relating to the 1MDB issues.
This was despite disagreements from the Pakatan Harapan counterpart in the bipartisan committee.
