KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will keep their promise as the government to abolish toll albeit at a later date than planned.
Works Minister Baru Bian said that it is essential for Putrajaya to first stabilise the national finances prior to tearing down several toll booth concessions.
He told the Dewan Rakyat that a whopping amount of roughly RM400 billion are required mainly as to pay off as compensations.
“The government will continue our efforts in fulfilling our promises in the PH manifesto, including the abolition of highway tolls.”
“But we have to admit that this is not easy to implement due to the pressures on the government’s financial situation,” he said in the Dewan during the Questioning Session.
This does not bode well with several Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers who claimed that PH are breaking their GE14 promises by not fulfilling it within their first 100 days as the government.
Baru then retorted by stressing that PH has never pledged to abolish tolls within its first 100 days in administration.
