KUALA LUMPUR: Incumbent PKR Deputy President Mohamed Azmin Ali today stressed that his party is not separated by two camps that are supporting two different leadership.
He said stories that claimed PKR has two branches — one that supports Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and another that’s supporting defacto leader Anwar Ibrahim is completely untrue.
Brushing it off as merely Umno’s agenda to break apart the Pakatan Harapan coalition, Azmin pointed out that Anwar himself has given full support to Mahathir as the number one man.
“Don’t entertain all tales. Anwar have repeatedly given his full support to Mahathir’s leadership as the Prime Minister.”
“PKR secretary general have also issued a statement… to call for all members to give their support to Mahathir in leading the Pakatan Harapan coalition.”
“So pay no attention, this is Umno’s agenda to break the unity of Pakatan Harapan that grows stronger everyday,” he told reporters in Parliament.
Yesterday, online portal FreeMalaysiaToday reported that a PKR insider claimed that the party is split into two factions, one loyal to Anwar and the other to Azmin.
The source had alleged that Mahathir was keen to see Azmin defeat Anwar in the upcoming party presidential contest, scheduled to take place this month.
He said that Azmin’s appointment as a director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad as well as Mahathir’s earlier decision to give Azmin the economic affairs ministerial portfolio, was a supposed evidence of the closeness between the two.
