Launch of The Zuraida Kamaruddin Women Empowerment Hub

The establishment of the Selangor Women’s Empowerment Institute (IWB) was officialised in October 2017 as a thinking and policy making body which supports the agenda and goals championed by the Selangor State Government.

A progressive, inclusive and holistic Selangor Women Policy was also launched in order to ensure the well-being of women to uphold the fundamental human rights and principles as enshrined in the Malaysian Constitution, as well as to ensure the balance and continuing excellence of the State Government administration.

Today, IWB Selangor stepped forward by introducing the Zuraida Kamaruddin Women Empowerment Hub. It is based on a compact hub that provides conducive space for the implementation of all special activities that raise the capacity and competitiveness of women in the state.
With space that can accommodate up to 40 to 50 people, various activities can be conducted such as presentation sessions, briefings and talks; training and workshops; forums and seminars, strategic meetings; Press conferences; theatrical performances, music and much more with the goal of IWB Selangor namely to:

a) Promote gender-sensitive development;
b) Improve the status of marginalized women;
c) Bridge gender gaps in the labor market;
d) Improve the leadership of women in politics and decision-making;
e) Improve women’s health, well-being and mobility;
f) Freeing women from violence and fear; and
g) Enhancing women’s creative talent.

Besides the successful launch of this hub, it is also a recognition and appreciation to a woman who has contributed much to the development of women in Malaysia, especially in the state of Selangor Darul Ehsan Zuraida Kamaruddin. She is a minister who leads the Ministry of Housing and Local Government as well as an adviser to the Selangor Women’s Institute.

In lieu of the spirit of independence that will be celebrated all over Malaysia tomorrow (August 31, 2018), we hope that the existence of the Zuraida Kamaruddin Women Empowerment Hub will strengthen the Selangor as a state of empowerment for local, national and global women’s empowerment through the Selangor Women’s Policy by maximizing potential and women’s capacity, upgrading their socio-economic life, health and safety of women and improving women’s leadership and decision-making capabilities.
