KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman today confirmed that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) has agreed to abolish the National Civics Bureau (BTN) as well as the National Service (PLKN) programme.
After the matter was agreed upon during a Cabinet meeting, Saddiq said that it was also decided that all existing resources, assets, infrastructure and workforce will now be placed under his ministry.
“It has been decided that they will all be placed under Youth and Sports Ministry, and will be utilizing the existing budget given to the ministry.”
“The new government aims to train and aspire visionary youth for the future, where there will be intensive training process for youth of all races,” he said.
Speaking in a press conference in Parliament, Saddiq who is also the Muar lawmaker stated that a major revamp will be conducted after a meeting with all stakeholders, be it private as well as government.
Besides the two programme, previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government initiative iM4U will also be going through a major overhaul.
Saddiq said the main focus is to bring iM4U back to its intended roots of inspiring volunteerism works among the younger generations.
He also stresses that there will be no more government based platforms to indoctrinate the youth towards a certain political beliefs.
