EC: Port Dickson polls on Oct 13

PUTRAJAYA: The by-election for the Port Dickson Parliamentary seat are set to take place on Oct 13, The Election Commission (EC) today confirmed.

It was also announced that nomination day will take place Sept 29, next Saturday.

EC Deputy Chairman Othman Mahmood said the campaign period would be held for a stretch of 14 days.

The Port Dickson seat fell vacant after incumbent lawmaker Danyal Balagopal Abdullah vacated the seat on September 12.

This was done to make way for incoming PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s official political return.

Anwar was serving prison sentence since Feb 10, 2015, was given a royal pardon by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V and was released immediately last May 16.

The PD poll will mark as the fourth by-election to take place after GE14 last May 9.

Previously, Sungai Kandis, Seri Setia and Balakong state seats all triggered by-elections, following the deaths of their elected representatives.
