SHAH ALAM: Freshly minted Selangor Opposition Leader Rizam Ismail today gave his assurance that he will not follow the footsteps of his predecessor by resigning from his post.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) Sungai Air Tawar Assemblyman said that this is no time to be politicking where Selangor oppositions need to be those who can fight for the people.

“The base of our struggle in this seat is to fight for justice, truth and the prosperity of the people. There is no issue for me to resign.

When asked for assurance, he briefly told the media “God willing, (Insya’Allah),”.

In December 2014, BN Sungai Burong Assemblyman Mohd Shamsudin Lias resigned as the Selangor Opposition Leader after turning down the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman post.

Shamsudin had rejected the offer as he claimed that the committee composition are unbalanced with five committees from PKR, DAP and PAS and only two committee, including himself was from BN.

Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the Selangor Legislative Assembly sitting earlier, Rizam said that he will gladly accept the PAC cheif post should it is offered to him.

He said he will accept it on the basis of helping the people, by becoming a balancing point to the state government administration.

Besides this, Rizam also welcomed any funding allocations from the Selangor state government to the opposition assemblymen, on contrary to his predecessor.

“It was a different time then. The political landscape have since change significantly after GE14 where today, both the state and federal government are being administrated by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

“Therefore, after taking into account, we need to be oppositions with facilities to ensure that Selangor administration runs the way we intend it to,” he said

In Nov 2014, all 12 BN assemblymen had rejected RM200,000 allocation for the opposition as part of the Selangor Budget 2015.

This was done to question the state government’s sincerity who had allocate RM700,000 a year for Pakatan Harapan assemblymen.
