Hasnita Hashim appointed as new Mara chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister’s office today announced the appointment of Dr Hasnita Hashim as the new Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara).

Making the announcement in a press release, the appointment will take into effect Oct 1 onwards.

Hasnita, currently the chairman of Maybank Asset Management Group and sits on the board of Malayan Banking Bhd holds a PhD in Physics from Nuclear Physics Oxford University.

She has 26 years experience in global financial management and has held the position of the Head Executive Officer at Guidance Investments, a subsidiary company Guidance Financial Group.

She started her career at Coopers & Lybrand Deloitte, London as an actuary and is also a member of the Institute of Actuaries.

In the same statement, the Prime Minister’s office also announced the appointment of a new Mara Council which will also be effective on October 1.

The Council comprise of Prof Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, Dr Nungsari Ahmad Radhi, Wira Ameer Ali Mydin, Syed Tamim Ansari Syed Mohamed, Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff and Zakri Khir.

On Sept 11, Minister of Rural and Regional Development Rina Harun said that they will be selecting new Mara chairman from a pool of person with calibre and “no longer have anyone like Annuar Musa in Mara”.

Annuar, The Barisan Nasional Ketereh lawmaker and Umno Supreme Council member was the former chairman of Mara.

He was investigated for corruption after allegations by Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Tunku Ibrahim who claimed that a certain ‘Tan Sri’ had forced Mara to sponsor the Kelantan football team.

However, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) concluded in its investigation that there was not enough evidence to charge Annuar.
