SIMPANG RENGGAM: Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik assured that there will be no budget cut in the education department for 2019.

He said the Education Ministry had submitted its request to the Finance Ministry with its focus set on upgrading dilapidated schools and strengthening the teaching of technical and vocational education (TVET).

“Sabah and Sarawak have the highest number of dilipidated schools in the country,” said Dr Maszlee at the launch of the free bus service, Bas Harapan Johor.

Maszlee last month had visited several dilapidated schools in Sarawak and have promised that his ministry would request financial allocations to resolve these on going woes, among other things.

Besides this he said there would also be special hardship allowance for teachers in Selangor and Johor to overcome issues of teachers shortage in the two states.

He explained that Schools in Johor and Selangor were facing a shortage of teachers due to out-of-towners who were unwilling to teach in these areas.

“Many cite high living cost as the reason for not wanting to teach in Johor and Selangor,” he said.
