PUTRAJAYA: Chief Secretary to the Government Ismail Bakar today did not deny the existence of potential moles within the civil service.

He said it would be unlikely that Council of Eminent Person (CEP) chairman Daim Zainuddin would be making such claims if it was untrue.

“I can’t comment on the specifics but of course our intelligence team have informations (on the matter).

“It may be true, otherwise I don’t think Daim would mention it. Surely there’s members of the public service that leaks confidential informations,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at the Up and Close KSN with media, Ismail said that he will leave the matter to be probed by an unnamed department where actions will be taken against the perpetrators, if any.

“Will will let the necessary department conduct their investigations and take appropriate actions,” he said.

Previously, Daim in an interview with Channel News Asia (CNA) claimed that there were “moles within the civil service and enforcement agencies” who were feeding information to the previous administration.

He said this had allowed fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho better known as Jho Low, to evade arrest due courtesy of tip-offs from moles in the government.

The report said Daim had received a tip-off just before Hari Raya that Low was at a hotel with his family but disappeared from the hotel within an hour.

Jho Low is currently wanted by local and foreign authorities for alleged misappropriation linked to state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
