SHAH ALAM – The Forum Ilmuwan Muslim (FIM) held at Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam yesterday saw about 300 intellectuals and academic thinkers gathered to share their views and ideas on current issues in today’s society.

FIM deputy chairman Dato’ Kamaruddin Jaafar said the forum was part of the efforts of thinkers in Malaysia who are inspired by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the last 20 years.

“It has been a good start to jointly engage the intellectuals of Islamic thinkers in Malaysia, and is supplemented with new thinkers, professors and intellectuals who emerged after 20 years,” he said.

According to Kamaruddin, the forum is evidence of the interest of the thinkers on the approach Anwar has since the beginning in order for the Muslim community in Malaysia to flourish in any field.

The forum featured Speaker and Director of the Post normal Policy Center and Future Studies, Prof Ziauddin Sardar, who discussed the topic of “Islam, Knowledge and Culture in Post normal Times”.

“Dr Ziauddin Sardar is a scholar, a renaissance man to be precise,” said Anwar Ibrahim who was present yesterday.

“He was one of the first who introduced us to the new dimension of Islam,” said Anwar, adding that the Malaysian Islamic society has much to learn from the London-based scholar.

Also present at the forum was Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari.

The Muslim Scientist Forum (FIM) is a field for Islamic thinkers in Malaysia to address the current issues that arise in today’s society.

The program, led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has been running since 20 years ago.
