KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry will be cooperating directly with the police in an attempt to curb telephone call and SMS scams.

Minister Gobind Singh Deo said his ministry will be aiding the police in raising awareness on the scam’s typical modus operandi.

The ministry will also assist the police in highlighting measures that can be taken by the masses to prevent them from being another victim of phone and SMS based scams.

“Be careful when accepting calls that requests payments or personal account details” Gobind said in his latest post on Twitter.

This was in response to Twitter user Kulaan Naran who proposed that the Communications and Multimedia Ministry set up a special unit to combat phone based scams.

In the reply, Gobind had welcomed the suggestion, complimenting the Twitter user by saying that it is a good one.
