KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo will be sitting down with telco representatives to discuss on their new packages, pricing as well as on going issues.

The Puchong lawmker said that he will ensure that the newly announced packages will truly benefit their subscribers.

This was upon reviewing the new packages as stated in the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) statement issued yesterday, which he found to never really reduce its prices to existing customers.

“This means that they will not be able to enjoy benefits from these new packages immediately.

“I will meet with telco representatives to discuss these issues in the near future. At the same time, I need to stress that telco operators offering these new packages must make sure that the services offered is actually given,” he said in his latest Facebook posting.

He also said that there were no proposals that was brought forward in an attempt to solve problems faced by Streamyx subscribers which he stressed as something that needs to be sorted out immediately.

The MCMC statement said consumers will enjoy lower fixed line broadband prices with a reduction of up to 56 per cent through the new packages announced by the four telcos, namely Telekom Malaysia, Maxis, TIME dotCom and Celcom.

Gobind also reminded MCMC to monitor the implementation of these new packages and manage all complaints received relating to it while taking necessary actions where it is deemed required.

He said this while pointing out that a reduced price with and increased broadband speed in the country is in line with Pakatan Harapan government’s initiative.

“I will continue with the efforts to improve the quality of the Internet service in our country to ensure that Malaysia is ready for the new digital era now seen worldwide as Industry 4.0,” he said
