35 stores in ‘Uptown’ Shah Alam destroyed in fire

SHAH ALAM (Bernama) – A total of 35 shops at Shah Alam’s late night bazaar ‘Uptown’ in Section 24, were destroyed in the fire this morning.

Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Fire and Rescue Department I, Mohd Rizal Buang, said a total of 39 members from Shah Alam, Kota Anggerik and Subang Jaya were rushed to the scene after receiving a call at 5.37am.

“Upon arriving at the scene the fire was raging, no casualties were reported as we were told the Uptown operation ended at 4am.

“A total of 28 stores in the first block and the second block burned 100 percent while seven stores in the third block 50 percent burned,” he said in a statement here today.

According to Mohd Rizal, the fire was controlled at around 5.50am.

He said the cause of the fire and the amount of losses is still under investigation.

This fire was the third incident in Uptown Shah Alam after the first took place in 2014 involving 196 stores and the second time involving four stores in 2016.
