AAM MOTORSPORTS TO SET UP INQUIRY ON FATAL CUBPRIX ACCIDENT

JOHOR BAHRU (Bernama) – AAM Motorsports Sdn Bhd (AAM) will set up an inquiry within the next few days after receiving all relevant documents to investigate on the accident which took the life of rider, Mohd Hafiz Nor Azman, during CP150 final of the Petronas AAM Malaysian CubPrix Championship 2018 at Bandar Penawar, Kota Tinggi, on Dec 16.

In a statement, its chairman Tunku Datuk Mudzaffar Tunku Mustapha said AMM had received the notification of the death of a CP150 rider competitor number 30, Mohd Hafiz, during CP150 final.

“It was with great sadness that we have received a notification of the death of a CP150 rider competitor number 30, Mohd Hafiz, during CP150 final. The circuit was inspected by Official Circuit Inspector on Friday (December 14) to ensure all safety features and barriers are in placed for the race,” he said in a statement here today.

“We wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mohd Hafiz,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kota Tinggi district police chief Supt Ahsmon Bajah when contacted by Bernama today, confirmed receiving a report on the accident at about 6.30 pm. However, no details on the accident was provided.

Mohd Hafiz, 22, is the son of former CubPrix rider, Nor Azman Mad Darus.

This year, the late Mohd Hafiz represented Petronas Racing Team-CKJ in the CP150 category.

Meanwhile, Johor Youth, Sports and Culture Committee chairman Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar also conveyed his condolences to Mohd Hafiz’s family.

He also called on the organisers to review the condition of the circuit so that the deadly accident would not recur.

“I hope there will be improvements to the circuit especially the route for the safety of riders who are talented and have brought honours to the country in motor sports,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
