MAIS is committed to upholding Islamic Rights & Shariah Legislation

SHAH ALAM – The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) have always been committed to championing Islam and Shariah Legislation and putting Islam at the highest point.

Its chairman, Dato’ Setia Mohammed Khusrin Munawi, said that this is in view of the many challenges to be taken in the effort to uphold the Islamic law and judiciary.

He said Muslims were often inhibited and challenged with various issues that could disturb MAIS’s efforts to uplift and upgrade religious institutions, in Selangor.

“There are those who dare to challenge the existence of religious institutions including Syariah Courts and Syariah criminal law by challenging the provision of Shariah criminal offenses allegedly being ‘Moral Policing’ such as khalwat, illegal intercession and drinking alcohol, supposedly in conflict with the provisions of Liberty Foundation in the Federal Constitution.

“This is one of the major challenges faced by religious institutions as there is a very liberal society and interpret human rights literally without thinking of the benefit of the people, the need for Maqasid Syariah and the law that serves to control and educate the morals of the people,” he said.

He was speaking at the Declaration and Presentation Ceremony of the Selangor Syariah Lawyers Certificate, at the Sultan Idris Shah Syariah Court Building Muktamar Hall, on Jan 28.

Also present were the Syariah Judge of the Malaysian Syariah Judiciary Department (JKSM), Dato ‘Mukhyuddin Ibrahim; Selangor Syariah Chief Judge Mohammad Adib Husain and President of Malaysia Syariah Lawyers President (PGSM), Musa Awang

The ceremony also witnessed a total of 62 Syarie Lawyers for the 2017/2018 session officially accepted, thereby becoming an agent to help the public in securing justice accordingly.

At the same time, Mohammed Khusrin said, as the party that mobilized religious and Shariah institutions, the initiative to preserve and act as agents that defended Islam was very important from the irresponsibility of the irresponsible groups.

“If not acted upon, the culture of too liberal thinking without guidance and having the right foundation will cause great harm to the Muslim community.

“What is most worrisome is the rise of these people who are increasingly daring to fight for borderless rights, such as the rise of Lesbian Gay and Transsexual Gay (LGBTs) who fought their freedom to practice their inverse way of life,” he said.
