MB calls for public universities to act as a centre of reform

SERDANG – Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari calls on Public Universities throughout the country to serve as the best centre for reforms to the surrounding communities.

He said he was optimistic that public universities would not only be in charge of organizing programs within the university fence, but will be more holistic.

“Any work or program implemented by a public university should be holistic and not limited to the institution’s area.

“Communication between a public university and the outside community is very important because there are various explanations that can be highlighted between the two parties,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the Advanced Tour Program with Dato’ Menteri Besar in Public University 2019 at Universiti Putra Malaysia, on Feb 20.

At the same time, he urges the workforce to be done by all within the public university’s community, regardless of whether they are from the administrative division, lecturers or even students.

“Perhaps the university can start the work in the vicinity like a shop and then expand it to other localities like mosques, surau, and schools,” he said.

Earlier, Amirudin also held a Joint Forward Program which is now extended to university level, to reach out to the children of Selangor.

The tour was made official yesterday with a visit to UPM by Amirudin to explain the program implemented by the State Government.

The initiative also gives him the opportunity to interact closely with the students of the university.
