MBI channeled RM1.6 million for Tanjong Karang storm victims

TANJONG KARANG – The Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) channeled around RM1.6 million for all 183 storm victims, here.

The amount includes the aid of a home repair damage of RM500 for minor damages, RM5,000 for moderate damages, RM20,000 for serious damages and RM50,000 aid for reconstruction.

Kuala Selangor District Officer Shamsul Shahril Badliza Mohd Noor said the State Government also channeled RM500 for victims.

“The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) is also pleased to allocate RM300 per family.

“The MBI will rebuild 14 houses that has been damaged, while LZS will assist 19 families with asnaf status here,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the Storm Aid Contribution Ceremony, at Seri Tiram Hall, Tanjong Karang yesterday.

Also present was Chief Operating Officer of MBI, Soffan Affendi Aminudin; Permatang State Assemblyman, Rozana Zainal Abidin; Kuala Selangor District Council secretary, Azman Dahlan and Head of Department of LZS Distribution Operations Management Department, Huzairi Ibrahim.

At the same time, he said, it was necessary to ensure that the donation money was distributed to the targeted groups without losing track of it.

“The allocation money is slow because at first we received only 163 families, but then it increased to 171 families and after that we asked the village chief to investigate the damage and so on until there are 183 victims.

“This is the first time that the number of victims are this high, so I ask everyone to be patient and hopefully the overhaul will work smoothly,” he said.

Previously, two villages in Tanjong Karang were hit by the worst storm in 20 years.

The two villages include Kampung Tiram Jaya and Kampung Sawah Sempadan, which also resulted in dozens of houses damaged.

The incident on 10 February surprised the residents as the weather on the day was bright and did not hinted that a catastrophe would befall in the evening of the same day.
