I wish A Happy Women’s Day to every women and especially for the women in the state of Selangor Darul Ehsan, in conjunction with World’s Women’s Day 2019.

This year’s celebration is a reminder for our society in order to remember the fights and sacrifices that has spanned across decades for the right of every women.

On World’s Women’s Day 1917, more than 150,000 women gathered in Znamenskaya Square, Russia, in order to fight for their rights to vote. 7 days after their march, their voices were heard and women in Russia were allowed to vote in Russia.

After the first World’s Women’s Day in 1911, the process of fighting for women’s rights indicated a brighter future for women around the globe.

In Malaysia, we have seen tremendous change in the process most notably in 1985, when the Dasar Kebangsaan for Women was established. The achievement of Malaysian women have been exceptional and spans across all fields such as sports, politics and administration, business and education. Women have continued to be the leader bearing torches that lead to success

In Selangor, the State Government has raised the agenda of women as a priority. Selangor continues to be proud of being the only state has 30 per cent of female involvement in the executive body of the Council State Government Meeting, in line with the theme of World Women’s Day this year which is #BalanceforBetter.

The State Government also continues to translate the agenda of women through various programs such as Kasih Ibu Smart Selangor (KISS), the establishment of the Institut Wanita Berdaya (IWB) and the Pusat Wanita Berdaya (PWB) in every State Legislative Assembly in Selangor.
I believe that the role of women should not be limited to merely familial duties only but continue to be a force as decision makers in politics and economics.

Thus, this year we have demonstrated our commitment through the basis of Work From Home, where recipient of the Kasih Ibu Smart Selangor can be actively involved in building micro enterprises to generate income, not constrained from economic involvement just because of the responsibility of caring for children.

Women’s development should be the basis of all development policies whether it be politically, economically and socially in order to uphold roles of women in Malaysia.

Happy World Women’s Day 2019!
