MB – Over 10,000 Selangor Students to receive PTRS Benefits

SHAH ALAM – The state government targets more than 10,000 students across Selangor to receive benefits through the Selangor People’s Tutoring Program (PTRS) this year.

Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari, said the, PTRS which had been introduced since 2009, received an encouraging response of up to 6,000 participants per year.

He said the state government has also added four to five important subjects which are Science, Mathematics, English, History and Malay in the programme recently.

“We want to ensure students are able to pass with excellence and meet the needs before going to a higher level.”

“In order to empower these students, we are also adding teachers and the number of pupils, particularly those who are less fortunate and weak in any subject, to participate,” he said.

He said this at the launch of the Selangor Education Tour 2019 program, at the Shah Alam Convention Center on 23 March.

Meanwhile, PTRS will also be implemented within the school districts around the country, starting from next year onwards.

The Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs, Science, Technology and Innovation minister, Hee Loy Sian, said the programme had no opportunity to enter these schools earlier this year as there were constraints from the previous government.

PTRS organized by the state government, in collaboration with Yayasan Selangor since March 2009, is continued with some added improvements to increase the level of achievement achieved so far.

The first policy of PTRS is to provide free education (tuition)  to students who have moderate or weak results, while the second is given to students whose family earns below RM2,000.
