Sultan of Selangor – Leaders, civil servants need to stay away from corruption

SHAH ALAM – Duli Yang Maha Mulia (DYMM) Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah reminds all the state leaders and civil servants not to involve themselves or even to associate themselves with bribery.

Sultan Sharafuddin said corruption is a betrayal of the state and society’s trust, and that it is the same as a slow-growing, silent disease that causes damage to a country’s system.

“I would like to advise the leaders of the state as well as the civil servants, to always emphasize their work ethics based on noble values and high honesty in the course of carrying out the duties entrusted to them”

“Corruption is an act of abuse of power and misuse of position for the purpose of self-enrichment, and to benefit family members and cronies when a person holds office and has been entrusted with the responsibility of administering public resources.”

“The corruption phenomenon is not just about those who accept bribes, but also includes those who are bribing, this should also be addressed so that it does not become a bad culture as well as the practice of this country’s society.”

“There is no significance for the development of a country if the attitude of leaders and civil servants are not trustworthy and honest in discharging their responsibilities,”said the Sultan at the opening of the Selangor MACC New Building Complex in Section 16 on 26 March.

He said the role of civil servants and politicians is not to accumulate wealth and luxury but instead, they have to recall the pledge of office that had been pledged by them to serve with trust and honesty to the masses.

“Corruption is identified as one of the major causes for the recession in economic growth and the loss of investor confidence in the economy of a country. We should learn from the history of the many governments and countries that have been destroyed due to the corruption symptoms practiced by its officers, staff and its leaders.

“In fact, the Malacca Malay Sultanate’s collapse was the result of unmanageable bribery in addition to the treacherous malice among its leaders. Therefore, we must always remember that corruption is the enemy of a nation and must be eradicated to the grassroots, “said the Sultan.
