REHDA Advises Govt to be active in Providing Affordable Homes

KELANA JAYA – The Selangor Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (REHDA) of Selangor suggested that the federal and state government need to play a more active role in providing affordable homes to the people.

Its chairman, Zulkifly Garib, said the demand for home ownership has continued to grow, however, people are faced with the constraints of obtaining loans from registered institutions.

“The government is looking for a way to increase affordable housing, just as what was done in Selangor, which has a high demand, but the question now is the price and the ability to get a loan.”

“The state government has set RM 300,000 as the price for affordable housing and we know that at the federal level, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government are actively implementing it.”

“REHDA has also held talks with the government to provide affordable homes to the people,” he said in a press conference at Wisma REHDA, here, on 3 April.

Taking Selangor as an example, he said he had met the EXCO and had made a presentation on the proposed lowered prices of the houses.

Zulkifly said REHDA also suggested the state government to give inputs to private developers to provide affordable homes.

“The REHDA Institute has released detailed reports of any current issues  and provides suggestions on how authorities and developers can work together to provide affordable homes.”

“The Selangor government and other states are also busy in finding ways to provide more affordable homes,” he said.
