Rumah Idaman Aims to Boost Affordable Housing in Selangor

KELANA JAYA – Implementation of the Rumah Idaman Rakyat Selangor (Idaman) implemented by the Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) aims to boost the construction of affordable housing in the state.

MBI’s Chief Operating Officer, Soffan Affendi Aminudin said a house is a very basic necessity to the people and has become a ‘nucleus’ for future economic development.

“If the people get good housing, banking institutions will also be running, including housing-based moves as well.

“At the MBI level, we use the Selangor Housing and Real Estate Board (LPHS) policy that sets developers to provide home-based pricing units such as Selangorku Homes.

“Hence, we use the concept to create the Rumah Idaman with no changes from the policy point and at the same time, is boosting affordable housing in the state,” he said at a press conference at the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Home (REHDA) here on 4 April.

At the same time, Soffan said MBI is in touch with all the stakeholders involved, namely the state government, developers and the people regarding affordable housing in Selangor.

“Most developers are only keen on the profit made from every home construction and need to look at cash flows to build affordable homes.”

“However, the government should encourage them to build affordable homes. Hence, we have the space to introduce this Rumah Idaman, “he said.

Rumah Idaman offers residential units of more than 1,000 square feet, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and two car parks with a net price of only RM250,000.

Each Rumah Idaman unit is equipped with a television set, refrigerator, TV cabinet, kitchen cabinets, air conditioning in every room and water heater in the bathroom.

The project will be developed in Kajang, Bangi, Ampang, Shah Alam, Cyberjaya, Dengkil, Setia Alam, Klang, Bandar Saujana Putra, Bandar Salak Tinggi and North Kuala Langat.

The launch of the special residential programme will be completed by Selangor Menteri Besar in Kajang 2, Mukim Bandar Batu 18, Semenyih, on April 6.
