KUALA LUMPUR – Police were forced to unleash shots at a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) which tried to escape from an inspection in Jalan Pudu, here today.

The Toyota Vellfire, which stopped near a hotel, was detained by a team from the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters’ Narcotic CID who were patrolling the area, in the incident at 5.30 pm.

Dang Wangi district police chief, ACP Mohd Fahmi Visunathan Abdullah said the driver, who realised the presence of police, sped off and almost hit a police vehicle.

He said the suspect’s car hit a Nissan Almera when escaping and stopped at a bank in Jalan Pudu.

‘’The police ordered the suspect to come out of the vehicle for inspection but he sped towards Jalan Loke Yew.

‘’The police had to shoot at the suspect’s car tyre five times,’’ he added.

However, the suspect managed to escape and the police were still hunting for the individual.

According to Mohd Fahmi, the number of  individuals in the car could not be ascertained as the screens were heavily tinted.
