Selangor Sends Big Contingent to SUKMA 2020

SHAH ALAM – Selangor is expected to send over 800 contingent members involving 30 events in the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Johor 2020.

Selangor State Sports Council (MSN) Executive Director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said the state had already passed the first phase of the team’s preparation, which is in the selection session while the preliminary training is currently ongoing.

“SUKMA is only about 14 months old and there are teams that are ahead of schedule, especially swimming, gymnastics, sports and some who have not stopped practicing all the time since last year,” he said.

Mohamad Nizam said the Selangor contingent’s event comprises of 16 compulsory sports and 14 selected sports competed in Johor.

Among the sports options are muay thai, tennis, canoe, volleyball and golf.

He said training for athletes of selected sports events had started since the beginning of the year as soon as they received the host confirmation.

“During the fasting month, the training of all athletes goes as usual but for the Muslims, the schedule is changed after the terawih prayers and the weekend,” said Mohamad Nizam.

“The holidays are not as long as everyone need to practice early to maintain performance,” he said.
