KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor is trying to measure its level of self-sufficiency by competing at the ASEAN region, said Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, EXCO for Investment, Industry and Trade of Small and Medium Industries (SMI).
He said the state government should not limit themselves by viewing Malaysia as the only big market to strengthen the state’s position.
“When we see strength at the regional level, we can improve our ability and become a better competitor,” he stated.
He said this after attending the Policy Makers and Industry Leaders Session: Developing Joint Economy through the ‘Selangor Powerhouse’ Forum here on 24 July 2019.
Prior to that, the forum at the Hilton Hotel was officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari.
Commenting further, Chang Khim said that the forum was very meaningful for the state government as it garnered companies and industry players from within and outside the country.
“Through it we can discuss to neutralize and to cooperate not only to maintain Selangor’s position as a ‘powerhouse’ but also to garner the state’s power in this region,” he said.
