Dr Xavier: Reaching Out to Indigenous People

SHAH ALAM – Kuala Langat MP Dr Xavier Jayakumar is organizing a Public Hearing session to reach out to indigenous groups to hear the issues that they are facing.

Dr Xavier said that among the issues raised was the Aborigines Act 1954 (Act 134).

He also discussed the provision for indigenous peoples under the control of the Aboriginal Development Department (JAKOA), school infrastructure and oil prices.

“This is a very positive programme and it shows the indigenous people that the state government and the center are concerned about them,” he said in a statement.

The programme, which also includes 15 indigenous village representatives, is organized by the Kuala Langat Parliamentary Office.

Xavier, who is also the Minister of Water, Lands and Natural Resources, said the results of the discussion also announced that 15 applications for Aboriginal land had already been approved by the state government.

“We will also focus on the education of Indigenous children as there are still many poor schools,” he said.
