SHAH ALAM – Fire Extinguishing Operation at an illegal dump site near Sungai Long Toll Plaza, Kajang is still being carried out by fire and rescue teams.

Exco of Environment, Green Technology, Consumer Affairs, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hee Loy Sian said the fire extinguishing operation is now in its ninth day.

He said the garbage disposal site is still being monitored as there were still smoke spots in the area.

“Firefighters and rescuers are still in the midst of extinguishing. So far 90 per cent of firefighting work has been done,” said Hee.

“We expect the fire to be completed today or tomorrow but it also depends on the weather,” he added.

Earlier, the 1.33-acre site was on fire and firefighters were having a hard time extinguishing it as the area was 70 feet high.

Apart from the difficulty of extinguishing the fire, the task of extinguishing fire in the area is also dangerous.

Following the fire, the Kajang area was hit by haze.

Accordingly, landowners who allow the area to become a landfill are subject to legal action under the Environmental Department, Land and District Offices and Local Authorities Act.
