Selangor to Maintain its Outstanding Status in Sports

PETALING JAYA – The state government will reach out to all sports associations in the state to ensure Selangor’s status as a state with an outstanding level in sports can be maintained.

Exco of Youth & Sports Development and Human Capital Development, Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the state government will also provide opportunities for sports organizations with the Disabilities (OKU) category.

“To achieve this, the state government will be on the ground to encourage greater level of sportsmanship in Selangor,” he said.

“Selangor is the right state to organize large programmes that involves sports, even the Local Authorities provide many sports facilities including for the disabled,” he added.

“The Selangor Football Association, for example, is well known. So it is time for us to look at other less prominent sports associations such as rugby, tennis, netball to ensure Selangor remains as a well-known sporting force and not just for football.”

He was speaking at the opening of the 2019 UniFlo Selangor Open Championship organized by Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia (WTM) at the Kelana Jaya Sports Complex here on 20 August.

Mohd Khairuddin said the state government has always been in full support of organizing international sports to further promote sports development in Selangor.

He said he hoped sports associations, especially WTM and the state government, will organize bigger international tournaments in the future.

Mohd Khairuddin said in addition to maintaining Selangor’s status as a state with an outstanding level of sportsmanship, the state also wanted to use sports as the best platform to foster closer ties between the people of the country.

Earlier, Mohd Khairuddin had spent time watching the Uniqlo Selangor ITF Open Championship with 61 players from 10 countries.
