Only Johan Setia’s API Remains Extremely Unhealthy in Selangor


SHAH ALAM – Johan Setia remains the only area in Selangor to record the Air Pollution Index (API) at an unhealthy level with a reading of 214 at 11 am on 23 September.

According to the API at the Department of Environment’s portal, five other areas in Selangor were recorded at unhealthy levels in Kuala Selangor (187), Shah Alam (177), Petaling Jaya (172), Klang (162) and Banting (152).

On 22 September, the Ministry of Education confirmed 57 schools in Selangor for the Klang and Kuala Langat districts to be closed on 23 September.

Meanwhile, API readings in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya still show unhealthy levels involving Batu Muda (145), Cheras (158) and national administration centres (181).

In Penang, one area recorded an unhealthy API, Perak (4), Negeri Sembilan (3), Melaka (3), Johor (5), Terengganu (3), Kelantan (2) and Pahang (5).

However, the situation in Sarawak is improving with all 11 areas now having moderate API readings.

According to the records, API readings between 0 and 50 are well-defined, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) while 300 and above are dangerous.
