PGA Seizes Smuggled Cigarettes Worth RM 64,000 in Kalabakan

TAWAU – The General Operations Force (PGA) through its 14th Battalion 14 here seized cigarettes worth RM 64,000 from a car by the roadside near a roundabout in Kalabakan near yesterday.

Commanding Officer Supt Mustapha Othman said in the incident at 3 a.m., PGA members seized Premiro cigarettes (300 cartons), Djarum Black cigarettes (200 cartons), Surya Menthol cigarettes (80 cartons) and Fit Wild cigarettes (240 cartons) which were hidden in several boxes in the car.

“No arrests were made during the raid as the Proton Perdana was found parked on the road shoulder with the door on the driver’s side opened,” Mustapha said.

“Efforts were made to locate the driver in the nearby area but failed,” he said in a statement here today.

Mustapha said checks on the Proton Perdana found the boxes covered in black plastic on the front passenger seat, back seat and in the boot.

He added that the seized items have been taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters for further action.
