SELAYANG, Oct 25 — After 54 years of operations, the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) has introduced a digital marketing system that would include manufacturing, wholesale and retail.
Its chairman Ishak Ismail said the establishment has planned out three agendas to push Fama’s role to greater heights.
“The plan includes using the digital marketing system, operated through the Agro Bazar Online portal, ‘Tani Ekspres’ and ‘Tani Crowd Funding,” said Ishak at the launch of My Best Buy and Direct-from-Farm Sale (JTDL) programmes in conjunction with Fama’s 54th anniversary at Fama Point Building, here today.
He said Fama has also taken several steps to encourage third parties or middlemen to register with them, as this enables the statuary body to train the groups to be more ethical and professional when dealing with farmers and traders.
“If we have a database for these middlemen, we would be able to identify them and their movement, as well as determine their commodity trading. We can also help them in ways to effectively bring produce from the farms based on our experience.
“The role of the middlemen has to be acknowledged and have their level of ethics and professionalism controlled because if they become professional shipping agents, they could bring forward a positive contribution,” he said.
