Conferment of Craft Icon Award on Tunku Azizah a boost to Malaysia’s craft industry

RAWANG, Nov 13 — The conferment of the 2019 Craft Icon Award on Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah by the World Craft Council has been seen capable of boosting the image and reputation of the Malaysian craft industry.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry director-general Datuk Isham Ishak said the award and recognition were also capable of opening the eyes of the world community to see Malaysia’s efforts in preserving its craft.

“Her Majesty has indeed made the most valuable contribution through her active participation and efforts in promoting the country’s arts and craft.

“The conferment of the award will definitely encourage more people, especially the young ones, to help preserve Malaysia’s unique and diversified craft heritage,” he said after attending the National Craft Institute’s (IKN) convocation ceremony here today.

He said this when asked on the conferment of the award at the 3rd International Craft Award ceremony scheduled to be held at GMR Aerocity, New Delhi, on December 7, in conjunction with the Indian Craft Week from December 4 to 8.

According to India Craft Village website at https://www.craftvillage.org.in/home.html, apart from Tunku Azizah, the IKN and Kraf Komuniti Ku (KKK), are also listed as the recipients of the Best Craft Academy/Institute Award and Best Craft Village.
