MB: Recipients of Selangor’s new water scheme will be known March 2020

SHAH ALAM, Nov 4 — The list of 700,000 Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) account holders that will benefit from the Darul Ehsan’s free water scheme next year will be finalised by March 2020.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the list of recipients will be obtained after crosschecking the applications received through both online and manual registration with the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

“Registration is open from September 30 and is expected to end on December 31, 2019. The registration process is to collect and update the applicants’ data.

“Starting from January 2020, all the applications will be reviewed and then we will get to know the status of the approved recipients,” said Amirudin replying to a question by Sungai Panjang assemblyman Dato’ Mohd Imran Tamrin on the Darul Ehsan water scheme at the state legislative assembly, here today.

Amirudin said the new water scheme would reduce the state government yearly expenditure on free water from RM180million to RM96million, in which he said was expected to reach RM200million due to the increased population.

Under the present free water scheme, there are currently 1,600,000 registered accounts in Selangor, who are enjoying 20 cubic metres of free water monthly.

He said from June 2008 until August this year, the state administration has spent about RM1.8billion for the 20 cubic metres free water programme.

“Through the Darul Ehsan water scheme, the state government is expected to lessen the expenditure by 50 per cent,” he added.
