Merdeka Day 2020 celebration must be extraordinary

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 22 — The 2020 National Day Celebration should become an extraordinary event and much better than the celebrations in the previous years, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

He said the relevant departments and agencies must make early preparations and think outside the box to ensure that the most important annual event would leave a mark to the people and country.

Acknowledging that managing the event on August 31, which is a sacred date for Malaysia, was a major challenge for the ministry, yet the outstanding organisation demonstrated this year (2019) gave the confidence that such aspiration could be achieved, he said.

“Now we have to look forward to the 2020 National Day celebration and with the performance shown this year, I believe we can do better next year.

“For this purpose, we must make much earlier preparation, try to think outside the box how to plan for an extraordinary event that could be seen by the people as an event that is much better than this year,” he said.

He said this when feting staff involved in the 2019 National Day Celebration at the Program To Strengthen National Day Strategic Networking 2019 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here today.

Also present were the Chairman of the 2019 National Day Parade and Procession Committee Tan Sri Norliza Rofli as well as representatives of departments and agencies involved in organising the event.

The 2019 National Day Parade and Procession took place at the Dataran Putrajaya here involving 16,000 participants and witnessed by more than 35,000 visitors.

Meanwhile, Gobind praised the commitment of everyone who had worked hard and gave strong commitment to the extent that the parade and procession to inculcate patriotism among the people went smoothly and with excellence.

“Everyone present in the hall has the strength, expertise and his or her own resources needed to launch the celebration.

“It is impossible for the event to be implemented successfully without integrated efforts, cooperation, coordination, hard work and professionalism from everyone involved,” he added.

At the event, Gobind also presented prizes for the 2019 National Month Happiness Competition to nine winners competing in the government and private buildings category, kampung, primary and secondary schools, housing estates, individual residences, arches and higher learning institutions.
