SHAH ALAM, Dec 26 — A systematic and efficient approach in solid waste management and disposal has to be comprehensively studied and explored.

Selangor Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said this should be done through methods of improved administration, data systems, technology and the use of artificial intelligence.

He said the implementation of improved methods in waste management and disposal should be on par with developed countries as to not only achieve Selangor’s 2025 smart state vision but also for the well-being of the people.

“The state government continuously welcomes the initiatives on waste management and disposal introduced by its subsidiaries or agencies.

“To achieve our smart state aspiration, we would like to see new initiatives explored in areas such as data systems, technology and artificial intelligence,” said Ng at the handing over ceremony of 56 compactor trucks in areas under the purview of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), here today.

Also present were Shah Alam deputy mayor Mohd Rashidi Ruslan, KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) board chairman Raja Shahreen Raja Othman and its managing director Ramli Tahir.

Meanwhile, Ng added that the state administration was satisfied with the latest achievement by KDEBWM in the solid waste management industry.

He said the company, which is fully-owned by Menteri Besar Incorporated, is also exploring other initiatives including recycling of waste and decomposable plastic waste.

“KDEBWM is also looking into the bio-diesel technology that is plastic-based as well as ‘Waste-To-Energy Plant’, ‘Material Recovery Facility’, ‘Recycling Plant’ dan ‘Composting’.

“I hope this new initiative by KDEBWB would benefit the solid waste management industry and return of capital to Selangor,” he said.
