SHAH ALAM, Dec 24 — The restoration of treated water supply to areas affected by the Sungai Semenyih pollution has reached 56.9 per cent.
Air Selangor Sdn Bhd Corporate Communication head Abdul Halem Mat Som said several areas near the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant started receiving water supply since early this morning.
“The flushing method used to eradicate contaminated water had delayed the supply of treated water to the affected areas. However, we are working continuously to resolve the matter.
“As of 12pm today, the water supply has been restored in several areas namely Petaling (54.2 per cent), Sepang and Putrajaya (60.1 per cent) and Hulu Langat (87.7 per cent),” he said in a statement today.
Air Selangor is still in the midst of working to restore treated water supply in Kuala Langat.
He noted that the water supply will be restored in stages depending on the geographical location and altitude of the premises.
“Areas located close to the distribution system are expected to receive supply sooner than those further away,” added Abdul Halem.
Meanwhile, Bukit Tampoi water treatment plant had resumed its operation 9am today and Air Selangor is working on stabilising the pressure at the main pipeline as well as the service ponds.
The Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants were forced to shut down on Saturday due to odour pollution caused by the disposal of illegal toxic waste with solvent odours into Indah Water Konsortium sewage manholes in Bandar Bukit Mahkota.
Following the closure, residents in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang faced disruption of clean water supply.
