Cherish diverse, harmonious society, says Sultan of Selangor in CNY wish

SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has called upon Malaysians to embrace the country’s peaceful and multicultural society.

In his Chinese New Year message, the Sultan voiced his hopes that the festive season would be an opportunity to bring the people together and serve as a catalyst to bring the nation forward.

“I feel proud that we live in a multi-racial country and we can be together to share happiness in celebrating such a festive occasion.

“While celebrating, we must also cherish our diverse and harmonious society, and stand together in an affirmation of the hard-won freedoms,” he said through a post on the Royal Selangor Office’s Facebook page today.

The Sultan expressed his joy that the festivity is celebrated in unity, in which he said was necessary during the current situation and political climate.

“Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and I would like to wish everyone a prosperous and auspicious Chinese New Year. Gong Xi Fa Cai,” the statement read.
