DOE steps up operation against excessive smoke emission

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 24 — The Department of the Environment (DOE) is intensifying operations against excessive black smoke emission by vehicles that can cause air pollution during the current hot and dry weather.

Its director-general Norlin Jaafar said that from Jan 1 to yesterday, 53 operations were carried out nationwide and 2,117 vehicles were inspected.

“A total of 66 compound fines and 58 notices have been issued,” she said in a statement here today.

Norlin said the enforcement under the Environmental Quality Act 1974 was also carried out following the increased number of vehicles expected during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The public can contact DOE at 1-800-88-2727 or via e-Aduan portal to report any pollution case.
