SHAH ALAM, Jan 22 — The selected host for the Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2022 will be decided by the end of February, says Mohd Khairuddin Othman (pic).

The state Youth, Sports Development and Human Resource Development Committee chairman said in preparation for Selangor to possibly host the biennial multi-sporting event, the Selangor State Sports Council had visited several locations where the sporting events would be held.

“We will focus on several sports that are seen as potential winning shots, such as swimming, athletics shooting and archery,” he said today.

Last September, Mohd Khairuddin said chances for Selangor to host Sukma 2022 was promising as several states have expressed their support during the Sukma supreme committee meeting, which was chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abd Rahman.

Mohd Khairuddin had also previously expressed his optimism that the state could realise its hopes to host the games due to Selangor’s economic strength.

Aside from Selangor, three other states were also offered to host the games, namely Penang, Kedah and Sabah.

Perak hosted the 2018 Sukma and Johor will host the next edition in July 2020. Selangor, which last hosted the Sukma in 1998, hopes to reprise its role as the host of the country’s biggest sports festival in 2022.
