SHAH ALAM, Feb 17 — The Selangor government will add new routes for the Smart Selangor Bus as part of its efforts to improve the free public transportation service.

Its Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said as of August 2019, there are 41 existing routes under the purview of 11 local authorities, benefiting 38 million passengers.

“The free bus initiative is the first of its kind in Malaysia and has now been emulated by other states.

“It is among the state government’s initiative to ensure the people can be transported from one place to another at a minimum cost,” he wrote in a post on Instagram, yesterday.

Meanwhile, Instagram user @mucheterz commented that the free bus service has helped many in their daily routine.

“The state government is committed to delivering the best for the people by providing free Smart Selangor Bus service. We hope to see the service improved with more routes added in,” said another user by the Instagram handle @wana_samah.

Selangor had started the free bus service initiative in 2015 before it was rebranded as Smart Selangor Bus

It was implemented under the state’s ‘Inisiatif Peduli Rakyat’ (People Care Initiative), which was introduced under the administration of former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
