PKNS donates RM50k to assist Asnaf Entreperneurs

KLANG, Feb 28 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) donated RM50,000 to Teraju Ekonomi Asnaf Sdn Bhd (TERAS) to help asnaf (those eligible for zakat) entrepreneurs improve their standard of living.

PKNS chief corporate officer Siti Zubaidah Abd Jabar said the donation from the corporations’ zakat funds would be used by TERAS to purchase two types of sewing machines for asnaf entrepreneurs to start a tailoring business.

“The donation will be channeled to 10 TERAS entrepreneurs to start their business. Each of them will receive two types of sewing machines – straight stitching machine and overlock sewing machine.

“The beneficiaries will also be offered a sewing class for six months and will be monitored continuously by TERAS throughout that period,” she told reporters after the Sewing Package Donation ceremony for the Asnaf hardcore poor here yesterday.

At the event, Siti Zubaidah handed over a mock check to TERAS general manager Mohd Hasnul Redza Abdul Rahim.

She said the donation marked the second year that PKNS had worked together with TERAS to assist asnaf entrepreneurs after RM150,000 was channeled to buy 13 fabric vacuum cleaners in 2019.

“If TERAS wants to continue this co-operation in the future, PKNS can offer a platform to the asnaf entrepreneurs to open a booth at the PKNS Complex,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Hasnul Redza said TERAS had provided a three-day course for participating entrepreneurs to ensure their sewing skills could be improved to help them out of poverty.

“After they complete the course, we will monitor for a year to ensure their sewing products can be marketed.

“This way, we will be able to assist them in the marketing aspects, either online or open premises so that they can get orders from big boutiques,” he said.
