SHAH ALAM, Feb 18 — Selangor athlete undergo high-performance training in Kenya in preparation for the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2020, which will be hosted by Johor in July.

Selangor State Sports Council (MSN) executive director Adi Faizal Ahmad Tarmizi said two male athletes have been receiving training by Kenyan coaches since January to improve their performance in athletics.

“We sent our athletes to Kenya for them to experience the athletic training centre there. MSN is only sponsoring their flight tickets while other expenses are paid by the coaches.

“We went for Kenyan coaches because they have produced exceptional long-distance runners, aside from athletics,” he told SelangorKini in an exclusive interview at the Selangor Youth and Culture Complex, here on February 10.

Among the athletes undergoing training in Kenya include Berchmans Aruldass and Jeff Lim Zhe Yu.

Meanwhile, golfers Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi, Muhammad Afif Mohd Fathi and Liyana Azizan Durisic are being trained in the US in preparation for the biennial Games.

Adi Faizal said several sporting events are scheduled ahead of Sukma 2020, which includes participation in tournaments abroad such as cycling, swimming and tennis.
