Jais urges muslims to participate in prayers next week

SHAH ALAM, March 29 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) is urging Muslims in the state to take part in the ‘People of Selangor Prayer Programme’ (Rakyat Selangor Berdoa) on Monday and Thursday to seek god’s protection from Covid-19.

JAIS director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the prayer and recitation (zikir) programme would be implemented in their respective homes #stayathome at 8.50 pm after the Isyak prayer.

“Imams at mosques and surau will perform the prayers and recitations using loudspeakers in the absence of the congregations at the mosques and surau,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

He said Muslims who wanted to follow the programme could watch it live on the Facebooks of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque and Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Mosque, Bukit Jelutong.

“JAIS urges Muslims in Selangor to together perform the prayers and recitations for mental and physical strength and abundant patience especially the frontline personnel and national leaders who have been working hard to look after the security and health of the people in the country from Covid-19,” he said.

He said JAIS also urged Muslims to comply with the directives of the National Security Council and to make use of the movement control order (MCO) to conduct prayers with their families.
